(Lahore 08 July, 2017) It is a fact that Pakistan is emerging as a trading nation, primarily because of its location at the crossroads of South Asia, China, Central Asia, West Asia and the Indian Ocean. With its liberal pro-investment policies, Pakistan is a combination of a rapidly growing economy with a highly skilled and moderately priced workforce. Pakistan’s economy has shown a relatively well economic trend for the last few years.


Numerous Canadian companies are already exploring opportunities in Pakistan in various sectors, including solar energy and information technology. However, our economic ties haven’t been reached to its true potential. In a report by Statistics Canada, bilateral merchandise trade alone topped the $1 billion mark in 2016, depicting a 49%.

A recent meeting was held between Pakistan’s Finance Minister – Ishaq Dar, and the Canadian High Commissioner - Perry Calderwood, where the commissioner said “a robust economic growth and a visible improvement in the security situation in Pakistan had provided a good opportunity for further strengthening economic and business linkages between the two countries". The President of All Pakistan Business Forum (APBF) – Mr. Ibrahim Qureshi expressed his opinion over Pakistan and Canada’s economic relations and said: “Pakistan and Canada have been traditionally enjoying friendly relations over the years, with close co-operation in development, people-to-people contacts and regional security. Pakistan’s exports value at $350 million+, whereas Canadian exports totaled $690 million. Canada has vast business opportunities in Pakistan, such as oil, gas and minerals exploration, information technology, agro-business and power generation.”

The current state of bilateral ties including economic cooperation between Pakistan and Canada were discussed along with the steps that had been taken to reactivate the bilateral Trade and Investment Working Group to help promote economic cooperation. The Canadian High Commissioner also encouraged Canadian investors and firms to explore and benefit from the business and investment opportunities available in the country.

ISLAMABAD: In an Agreement signed between National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), the official ICT services provider to the Government of Pakistan and Telenor Pakistan have signed an Agreement for provision of telecom services to NTC customers across Pakistan, through their mobile network.


Under the Agreement between NTC and Telenor, Telenor will provide services like internet dongles, mobile handsets and SIM cards to provide 3G/4G GSM and data services in areas where NTC infrastructure is not available.
The signing ceremony was attended by Brig (R) Viqar Rashid Khan, MD NTC and Mr. Irfan Wahab, CEO Telenor Pakistan. The Agreement was signed by respective delegates.
NTC is the official IT & Telecom service Provider for the Government of Pakistan and has been granted Integrated LDI License to provide ICT services to Armed forces, Defense Projects, Federal Government, and Provincial Governments or as the Federal Government may determine. NTC is committed to provide secure, efficient and state-of-the-art ICT services to its valued subscribers.  Brig (R) Viqar Rashid Khan, MD NTC expressed that since its inception, NTC has continued to provide the most innovative ICT services to all government departments. He added that the secure ICT infrastructure provided by NTC will facilitate the subscriber in automating and thereby improving its management and processes.
Telenor started its operation in Pakistan in 2005 for provision of GSM services. Telenor Pakistan has reported a subscriber base of over 36 million, making it Pakistan's second largest mobile operator. Telenor is an international telecom service provider of high quality voice and data services across Europe and Asia. Telenor Group is among the largest mobile operators in the world with 180 million mobile subscriptions and a workforce of approximately 33,000.
MD NTC Mr. Viqar Rashid Khan enlightened the audience of the achievements of NTC during the past four years. NTC is the first operator in Pakistan to establish a Cloud Based National Data Center for the Public Sector. NTC has witnessed unprecedented financial growth of 359% during 2015-16 and an increase in broadband subscriber base by 36%. NTC has extended its services from 54 districts/cities to 87 including underdeveloped districts in Sindh and Baluchistan. The number of exchanges increased from 139 (in 2012-13) to 260 in 2016, thereby overall 87% increase. NTC utilized 99% of its ADP budget in FY 2016-17. Also NTC is the first to use M2M and P2P networks for extending fixed lines and data connectivity. NTC has already resumed the international gateway operations. Large scale Wide Area Networks of CDNS, Election Commission, State Bank, AGP and other strategic organizations have been established. Pertinent to mention that, NTC has also signed a Service Provider License Agreement (SPLA) with Microsoft to provide SaaS in the country through its cloud based National Data Centre. NTC is pursuing strategic partnership with private operators in the Telecom industry to bring new services for its subscribers. NTC is the first in the country to introduce new apps like Go-Smart for its customers and have extended 3G/4G Mobile data connectivity to its subscribers under Public Private Partnership.
MD NTC further briefed about the future plans and projects of NTC. These include establishment of strategically vital submarine cable landing station at Gawader as an alternate route to existing network. NTC further envisions expanding its network to all districts of Pakistan within the next 3 to 4 years. NTC is also managing Country Code Top Level Domain (CCTLD) (پاکستان .) for Urdu and local languages.

JS Bank’s Acts of Humility Defy All Odds of Indecency

Since the Pakistan Cricket Team won the Champions’ Trophy and eventually cross-referenced each citizen’s feelings into a frenzy of communal togetherness, the big guns of the country have made a couple of decisions to help accentuate the current situation.


For the past few years, the country has witnessed a similar chain of visceral events that have either attempted to tarnish the sovereignty of Pakistan or tried to make sure that no one breathes peacefully for the remaining calendar year. But a few changes were made, responsibility was taken and in the end, a blissful state of togetherness and shared communal beliefs took hold in the hearts of every Pakistani. We defeated India in a final; this actually means ‘we silenced the doubters of progress.’
It was already tough for the Pakistan Cricket team to make it into the folds of honorary Champions’ Trophy to be honest, yet the odds upturned the predictions of many defaulters of our sporting legacy and in the end Pakistan took emerged victorious at the helm of a tirade and difficult tourney. The win against India threw the Indian media in a frenzy of farcical speculations that tried to condemn the hard work put forth by team captain Sarfaraz and his players. Laugh out loud, the Indians always have had too much to say for too little a logical implication, cricket be that as it may!
Long story short, the victory at Lord’s compelled our country to reward the Team for such an exceptional result.  Lahore: 04th July, 2017 – Fertilizer manufacturers have decided to resume sales of urea after Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Food Security & Research have given assurance to issue subsidy notification within next 10 days. The Subsidy Notification has faced procedural delays by concerned Ministries as that had to be issued before 30 June 2017 for disbursement of new subsidy scheme announced in budget 2017-18. Thus the industry had earlier decided to stop the sales of Urea. The industry hopes that the Govt will fulfil its commitment and devise a simplified way of subsidy disbursement.

 The crisis escalated after the newly announced subsidy was disowned by either of Ministry to follow up through notification. It is learnt that unnecessary verification process is likely to be done away with, thus relying mainly on GST returns, filed by the companies. FBR, with new leadership is expected to facilitate the process, thus helping the industry which is one of the highest contributors to the national exchequer. The backlog of Rs 20 bn subsidy claims of previous scheme remains still a headache for Ministry of Food Security, and financial burden of delayed payments has already caused serious concerns for the fertilizer industry. Under these circumstances, the manufacturer companies had been reluctant to participate in the subsidy scheme, which is channeled to reach to the farmers through the producers. It is important to note that Fertilizer prices in Pakistan remained capped, due to the subsidy programme - a costly and tedious exercise for the government and the fertilizer industry.

Lahore, 1st July, 2017 – Uber has much reason to celebrate - as it announces crossing the 5 billion worldwide trips mark on Saturday 20th May. To make this happen, 156 trips started simultaneously at 7:29:06am GMT, in 24 countries across six continents, in cities including Dubai, Moscow and the capital city of Pakistan – Islamabad.


Uber started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get a ride at the push of a button? In late 2015, Uber made headlines for crossing the 1 billion trips mark. Six months later, the company reached 2 billion rides, and over the last 11 months Uber has witnessed incredible growth to reach an impressive combined 5 billion rides.

In Pakistan, two partner-drivers helped Uber reach the milestone. In Islamabad, Umer Ejaz Malik completed a trip to Jinnah Avenue. While in Karachi, Muhammad Kashif completed one to Shahrah e Usman.

Uber wouldn’t have reached this milestone without the dedicated service of partner-drivers. As a token of appreciation, Uber will be giving each of the 156 drivers who were part of this milestone $500, including both partner-drivers from Pakistan.

“At Uber we are proud of our partner-drivers who have made it possible for us to achieve this milestone. It’s amazing that out of the 156 simultaneous trips taken worldwide, two were in Pakistan, one being in one of our newest market; Islamabad. This is evidence that the Uber app and technology is giving people in cities across the world, including Islamabad, access to safe, reliable and affordable transportation at the tap of a button” says Safee Shah, GM of Uber Pakistan.

Muhammad Kashif, who completed one of 156 trips that started simultaneously, and which took place on UberAUTO, said: “I am feeling very happy, and there is no way I can express it with words. Thank you Uber!”

Umar from Islamabad expressed how he felt about the occasion and said “A special thanks to Uber for giving us this award, and it is great to use the Uber app. Thanks a lot Uber!”

Since the Pakistan Cricket Team won the Champions’ Trophy and eventually cross-referenced each citizen’s feelings into a frenzy of communal togetherness, the big guns of the country have made a couple of decisions to help accentuate the current situation.


For the past few years, the country has witnessed a similar chain of visceral events that have either attempted to tarnish the sovereignty of Pakistan or tried to make sure that no one breathes peacefully for the remaining calendar year. But a few changes were made, responsibility was taken and in the end, a blissful state of togetherness and shared communal beliefs took hold in the hearts of every Pakistani. We defeated India in a final; this actually means ‘we silenced the doubters of progress.’
It was already tough for the Pakistan Cricket team to make it into the folds of honorary Champions’ Trophy to be honest, yet the odds upturned the predictions of many defaulters of our sporting legacy and in the end Pakistan took emerged victorious at the helm of a tirade and difficult tourney. The win against India threw the Indian media in a frenzy of farcical speculations that tried to condemn the hard work put forth by team captain Sarfaraz and his players. Laugh out loud, the Indians always have had too much to say for too little a logical implication, cricket be that as it may!
Long story short, the victory at Lord’s compelled our country to reward the Team for such an exceptional result. Ali Jahangir Siddiqui, Co-Chairman JS Bank couldn’t resist the temptation and gifted a brand new BMW hatchback to the cricketing captain Sarfaraz.
